The long and beautiful story of Porsche at the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans begins with an “alu box” driven by Veuillet and Mouche. Thus, on the 23 rd of June, for the 19th edition, the German team races for the first time on the famous circuit of Le Mans. The car, a 356 of 46 CV powered by a 4 cylinders engine, is prepared in the Austrian Gmünd factories. The body, with its rounded forms, is made of aluminum. With an average speed of 118 km/h, the car finishes at the first place of its category and is awarded for its unexpected record of the shortest time in the stands. After this success, Porsche will have to work hard during 19 years to get the glory of its first scratch victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Today, with 16 wins, Porsche has the most important list of victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
